Graphic Design

FINAL BLOG POST

My sophomore year of Ecomm  I learned how to use the programs Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, And lastly, InDesign to their full potential.  I have discovered how to better manage my time and collaborate with other people who I didn't think I could have before this class. I have made everything from prickly cactus pencils, patterns, 3-D objects, logos and getting rid of pixel fringe to more professional and complex projects such as movie posters, packaging, and shoe catalogs. finally,  learned how to communicate efficiently with other people to end with a unique product.

I mostly learned the skills I have gradually acquired from the help section in Photoshop, Illustrator, or Indesign. Occasionally I can't figure something even with the help of the help sections and have to Google things or ask my peers. I have learned how to use many tools on my own though. I now know how to use the effect gallery to find a style that suits me.

This is important because in the real world I won't have the help of others so I will have to rely on myself and the internet. If i were to always rely on others I would never learn anything for me.

My greatest strengths would have to be working with others and collaborating well. My weaknesses are that occasionally I will get off task and it then becomes very difficult for me to get back on task. when I have my mind set on something with no distractions I can finish quite quickly.

I've improved by learning how to eliminate distractions which I usually do by listening to music to get into the groove of things.

In the real world I'm going to have to know how to get rid of distractions. I'm going to need to find a schedule for myself that will allow me to work effectively and E-Comm has taught me how to manage my time effectively and it has also showed me how being distracted and procrastinating can have a bad effect on the product.

Some things I would've changed would have to be near the beginning of the year I didn't manage my time well and procrastinated so my products weren't as well made as I wished that they had been.

Overall I had a lot of fun in this class and even though Lofquist was not the best teacher in the world she is still a really cool person. Thank you for your time Mrs. Lofquist!

updated business cards

Postcard and Business card final:

For my postcard I used a google image and a text mask with the font Helvetica Italic in Black and white. For my Business card I used the same font and included my name, number and email address. I made it very simplistic to fit that Tumblr aesthetic and used bold lines to separate my text. I included the colors black and white to fit the same theme as my postcard and used the image in the back to match the same thing with scenery. My business cards represent the piano which I have picked up as a new hobby just this last year and have been enjoying it quite much so I thought I should incorporate it into my business card so I did.

How to Add Pages to your Blog--

Step 1: Access your blogger dashboards and find the section hat reads "New Page".

Step 2: Create a new page and transfer all the work you would like to be found on this page to it. Once completed come up with a name for the page and save.

Step 3: Next go back to your dashboard and find the link that says "Layout".

Step 4: Find the "Add a Gadget" option on the right-hand side and click on it.
Step 5: Scroll down in the gadget icon that appears and select the page option and hit the blue plus sign to add it to your layout.

Step 6: Then select the desired page you would like your viewers to be able to find your projects on. Your new page should appear under where you selected the "Add a Gadget" and then drag it to where you would like to find this page. Hit "Save arrangement" to apply it to your blog.

Professional Article

I Believe the article "Creative anarchy at its very best" by Denise Bosler is a great example or reference for what a Graphic Designer should and should not do when completing a professional project. Denise Bosler adds several examples to support the main points that she is trying to prove to the audience. Overall, I thought Bosler did a fine job of outlining exactly what standards she was feeling and thinking a graphic designer should meet.

Paint palette:

This is my paint palette.

         My official logo:

I choose this to be my official logo because I felt like it really represented me. Yellow represents happiness and confidence The font shows the flows and sharp parts of the letters and I can be fun and serious when I need to. Overall I believe my logo represents me well and I quite proud of it.

My top three logo picks:

I made these with the square shape tool, the Led Zeppelin font in black and white, and with yellow-orange, hot pink, dark gray.

My practice logos and practice fonts:

I made my practice logos using the square shape tool and several various color patterns such as: cool gray, magenta, and dark green. I used my favorite font which was the Led Zeppelin font in black and white. I used several example fonts such as the "It's too late" font used on Drake's newest album.

        Thumbnails:

These are my thumbnails.

      Scuba:

Pretty much just practicing using a clipping mask over an image with text.

         Professional Logo:

I chose to recreate the Adidas logo and the Adidas Originals logo. I created these logos by using the pathfinder, text tool, and the shape tools. The Font I downloaded for this project was TeX Gyre Adventor Bold to replicate the actual Adidas logo. I am very happy with the result of this project and enjoyed making it.

          No Pixel Fringe:

To make this project I used the defringe tool in black and white. I then triple checked to make sure that there was no remaining fringe around the depicted hand.

        Realistic Shadowing:

To make this project I got Patrick from the cartoon show Sponge Bob off of Google images. I then extracted Patrick from the original background. Finally I replicated patrick and filled him with a black to white gradient and slanted the image to fit Patrick.

Inspirational floating mountain:

This is my floating mountain with an inspirational message.

     Floating Island:

To create this image I  extracted both the island, a part of the island to form the bottom edge, and the "flying" hands. I then moved all these pictures around to my liking and used the paintbrush tool in spray paint with yellow to make the sun in the top left corner.

        Motif and Pattern:

For my Motif I used the triangle shape tool, the color pallet, and the pathfinder tool to form this in gray and blue. For my repeating pattern I used the triangle shape tool, the color pallet, and the color pallet in blue and cool gray. I hope to improve both of these later.

My Bottle:

For this assignment I used the 3-D tool, the rotate tool, the text tool, the bevel tool, the shine tool , and the text box tool to form this. I chose the blue and silver colors because they are a few of my favorite colors.

Pencil 1:

I used different shapes and textures to make this pencil. I used brown and red gradients and yellow, dark gray, black, and orange solid colors. I specifically used a line tool and shape tools to form my pencil. This project helped me understand how to use different shapes and lines to make objects.

Pencil 2:

How I designed this pencil and pencil container was that I wanted a theme so I chose desert. My pencil container inspired by the desert sandstone. I used a brown gradient to make it look 3-D and a tan yellow color with brown specks for it to resemble sand. I designed the pencil to look like a cactus complete with spines and even some cactus fruit on top.

 Applied Project:

I used different shapes, textures and graphics to assemble this applied project. To make the iPhone I used the shape tool to make the screen, back, home button, camera and microphone. I used the gold gradient on the home button and and back of the iPhone. To make the iPhone charger I used the shape tool to make the cord, the lightning cord, and the cube. I used the colors white, dark gray, and light gray.

There are several different parts to Graphic Design:

One of them is designing logos for companies that will get those companies some customers to buy their product or services. Graphic Design applies to my life when I see a restaurant such as McDonalds, Burger King, or Subway.

The very first thing that I notice is that their logos have either Red or Yellow in them- those colors symbolize hunger and make you want to eat there. The Graphic Designers who made those logos had our appetites in mind. Subway has yellow which makes the brain think of food and it also has green which makes me think of veggies or a nice salad. When the Graphic Designers made Subway's logo they wanted to send the message of "healthy food here!" to our us and that's what successful Designers do- they send the right message to bring in costumers.

I also think of Graphic Design when I see the album covers for the songs I listen to. If the album covers are really bad, I might not buy the paper album.
